Due to the delicate nature of Chinon fabric combined with intricate handwork (zari, sequence, or beadwork), standard machine washing will damage the delicate embroidery and alter the drape of the fabric.
1. Primary Care Recommendation: Dry Clean Only
Handwork Protection: Heavy yoke embroidery, sequin work, or zari detailing should strictly be Dry Cleaned to prevent threads from snagging, pulling, or tarnishing.
Fabric Preservation: Chinon is a soft, flowing fabric with a subtle sheen; dry cleaning ensures it retains its shape, texture, and vibrant color without shrinking.
2. Gentle Spot Cleaning & Emergency Home Care
If you must clean a minor stain or handle lighter wears at home, follow these precautions:
Spot Clean Only: Treat minor spills gently on the non-embroidered areas using a damp cloth dipped in cold water and a drop of mild liquid detergent (like Ezee or baby shampoo). Do not rub the handwork.
Cold Water Wash (If Washing): Never soak the garment. Quick-dip the outfit in cold water mixed with a mild liquid detergent for under 2 minutes. Do not wring, scrub, or twist.
Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water between two dry towels. Lay flat to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Never hang in direct sunlight, as Chinon fabric and dyed tones fade rapidly under UV light.
3. Ironing & Storage Guidelines
| Step | Recommendation |
| Ironing | Iron on Low Heat (Silk/Synthetic setting) strictly on the reverse side. Always use a cotton pressing cloth over handwork to protect the embellishments. |
| Steaming | A garment steamer held at a distance works best for Chinon's fluid drape, avoiding direct contact with heavy handwork. |
| Storage | Store wrapped in a breathable muslin bag in a dry closet. Avoid plastic covers, which trap moisture and tarnish metallic handwork/zari over time. |
